Free Dental SEO Agency Audit: What to Check First

Free Dental SEO Agency Audit: What to Check First

A free dental SEO audit is only useful if it tells you something you can act on. Most of the ones agencies send are built to generate a sales call  a long PDF of warnings, a score out of 100, and no indication of which problem is actually costing you patients.

We also run a free dental SEO audit at dentalseoagency.io, and this is the same sequence we follow

Start with the Google Business Profile, not the website

Google Business Profile for a dental practice, showing local SEO information, reviews, contact options, and a dental SEO icon.

For most practices, the map pack drives more calls than the site does, so this is where the fastest wins are. Check your primary category (it should be the specific one, not just “Dentist” if you’re a specialist), whether every service is listed, whether hours are accurate including holidays, and whether the photos are real or stock.

Then look at whether anyone has responded to reviews in the last three months. Silence there is common and easy to fix.

Check that your pages are actually indexed

Search site:yourpractice.com in Google. If the number of results is far lower than your page count, something is blocking indexing  a leftover staging setting, a noindex tag, or a robots.txt rule.

Practices redesigning their sites hit this constantly. It’s the single most damaging technical problem on this list, and it takes ten seconds to test.

Test mobile speed before you judge the design

Run your homepage and your busiest service page through PageSpeed Insights on mobile. Under two seconds is good, over four is losing you callers before the page renders.

On dental sites the cause is almost always uncompressed hero images or a page builder loading scripts it doesn’t need. This is one of the first things any credible agency fixes, and it sits in the technical workstream described in what a dental office SEO agency does.

Compare your service pages against the practices outranking you

Compare dental service pages with top-ranking practices using SEO rankings, competitor analysis, and search result insights.

Search your main procedure plus your city. Open the top three results and compare them to your equivalent page: length, detail, pricing information, real case photos, FAQs, and how obvious the next step is.

Most practices find they have a 300-word page competing against 1,200-word pages with photography. That gap is the work. High-value treatments deserve the most attention here, for the reasons set out in ranking for implant searches.

Count reviews against the map pack leaders

Note the review count and average rating of the three practices holding the map pack for your main terms, then compare yours. If they have 400 reviews and you have 60, no amount of on-page work closes that gap alone.

Check recency too. Thirty reviews in the last six months beats 300 from four years ago in most local markets.

Verify your name, address, and phone everywhere

Search your practice name and check the top twenty results for old addresses, disconnected numbers, or a suite number that appears three different ways. Insurance directories and health listings are the usual culprits.

Inconsistencies dilute local ranking signals, and they compound for practices with more than one site a problem covered in how local SEO works for dental groups.

Find the keywords you already rank on page two for

Open Search Console, filter to positions 11–20, and sort by impressions. These are terms Google already considers you relevant for. Improving one of those pages is usually faster than trying to rank something new.

This is the section of an audit worth reading first, because it’s where results come soonest. If it’s missing from an audit you were sent, the audit was automated.

Check what happens after someone clicks

Call your own practice from a mobile at 10am on a Tuesday and see how long it rings. Then fill in your own contact form and time the reply.

Traffic problems get all the attention, but a missed-call rate above 20% wastes every ranking gain that follows. An audit that never mentions calls or form response time isn’t measuring outcomes. What normal handling looks like is covered in what to expect from a dental SEO services agency.

How to tell a real free dental SEO audit from a lead magnet

Real free dental SEO audit compared with a lead magnet, showing SEO audit report with a checkmark versus a lead magnet with an X.

A genuine audit names specific pages and specific fixes, in priority order, with an estimate of effort. A lead magnet gives you a score, a list of generic warnings pulled from a crawler, and a booking link.

One other tell: a real audit will tell you something not to spend money on. If every item on the list happens to be a service the agency sells, you’re reading a proposal. The same logic applies when comparing providers, which is the basis of finding a top dental SEO expert agency.

What to do with the findings

Work in order of speed to impact: Google Business Profile completeness and review process first, indexing and speed second, page-two keyword pages third, and new service pages after that. Link building comes last — it does nothing for a site that isn’t converting yet.

Most practices can handle the profile work and the review process in-house. The technical and content work is where time runs out rather than ability, and where the scope of our dental SEO services picks up.
